At NHS we try to match our adoptable pets to the best family possible, and that can take a long time if a dog is older, can’t handle being startled by children, or needs to be the only animal in the home. We have some great dogs that are long termers, just waiting for the right family:
Galaxy is smart as a whip and brutally eager to please. She knows sit, down, roll over, and high five. She gets so excited when amped up that she can be too much for children. She would like to meet all members of the family including resident dogs…but a calm adult family would LOVE this girl.
Quinn knows sit and shake, and is a sweetheart! She can take some time to warm up to new people and places. She loves belly rubs and is very affectionate. She was housed in a quiet kennel in the back, but is now on the general adoption floor. She had ACL surgery and is still a little stiff when she sits down, but is recovering nicely. She is a couch potato and would be perfectly happy snoozing on the couch all day. She does need to meet all family members and dogs before going home. She wants a quieter home with no children under 12. She is a majority pitbull so will need to comply with the breed specific regulations.
Pepe is big dog in a small body! He is very vocal and can be a bit demanding. He loves treats, but doesn’t know many tricks. He is an older guy who can get startled easily and doesn't see the best. For those reasons we won’t send him to a home with kids under 12, and no apartments because he talks a lot. He'd be most comfortable meeting all family members and resident dogs before going home.
Jake is a sweetheart who may smother you in kisses once he spends some time with you. He loves attention and he is learning basic commands. He is an older boy, but he is a quick learner! He does have some renal issues and needs to potty more than most dogs. He must meet all family members and dogs, and may do best in a home with no young children under 6.
