Two Nebraska laws you’ll likely see more convictions on in coming
years deal with felony punishments for Dog Fighting and Animal Cruelty. These
laws are meant to end deliberate torture of animals in our state. The
Nebraska Humane Society applauds Nebraska Lawmakers who have stepped
up to the plate and said we simply won’t tolerate this type of
cruel mistreatment in our state.
Felony Cruelty
(LB 273 section 28-1009 subsection b)

IV felony if such cruel mistreatment involves the knowing and intentional
torture, repeated beating or mutilation of the animal.” (In
other words, intend to do it, or do it more than once, and your punishment
goes from misdemeanor to FELONY)
