Urgent: : Rescued Horses Need Your Help

On Friday February 6, 2015, the Nebraska Humane Society was asked to assist in another horse neglect case in Boone County.

Three members of the NHS equine team responded to a property, at the request of the Boone County Sheriff’s office, to take ownership of 5 emaciated horses. The owner relinquished the 5 to NHS. The NHS team noted several recently deceased horses on the property as well. Charges are pending and the case is being handled by Boone County officials. The horses have been brought to the NHS Star Equine Rehabilitation facility for veterinary care, proper nutrition and eventual training and adoption. These horses are very thin and weak. Just eating exhausts them, so they will take time, resources, and TLC to get up to healthy weights.

We are working with our veterinarians and nutritionist to rehabilitate these gentle giants, but we could use more help. Their care will not be quick or inexpensive. However, we simply cannot turn our backs on their suffering. If you can help, please do
