A Growing Family's Best Friend  Murphy A little over 10 years ago, my husband and I visited the Humane Society and saw a litter of adorable puppies that had been brought in as strays. We fell in love with the littlest one who sat apart from the others and was obviously very scared. But, we decided we weren't ready for a dog and went home. After thinking about that little dog all night, we decided we had to go back and get him. When we arrived, all the other puppies had been adopted but the little guy was still there. A note hung on the kennel saying that an adoption was pending for him. We were crushed. But fate seemed to be on our side. We returned that afternoon and learned that the adoption had not gone through! We were free to adopt him and take him home! We named him Murphy. Murphy has been with our family through the birth of three children who love him like crazy. We also adopted a friend for him, another dog from the Humane Society who we named Gus. From the second he got home, Murphy assumed the position of the family watchdog. His favorite place to lay is at the top of the stairs so that he can see out and watch over the entire neighborhood. When each of our children were born, he spent countless hours lying right beside them to protect them. He and Gus love going on walks together and playing in the backyard. We couldn't have asked for a better fit for our family. In the picture I've included, Murphy is between Gus and our daughter Olivia. Thanks to the Humane Society for the wonderful work you do and for giving us two dogs that complete our family. |
