A life saver

A therapy visit brings home a life long friend....

As someone who lives with mental illness, animals are great therapy. In April of 2011 I was struggling pretty intensly with my bi polar and after spending several hours on the NHS website looking at pictures, I convinced my wife to take me to look at the animals in an effort to lift my mood. I had no intention of bringing home a new friend but after seeing "Bear" in the kennel I knew I had to meet him. He was about 9 months at that time and when he walked into the visiting room, he bounced straight up and down several times, climbed into my lap, nuzzled into my neck and fell asleep. Needless to say Pogo (we changed his name) has been a part of our family ever since!! That little guy has truly been a life saver. He is the first one on my lap when he knows I'm not feeling well and is just such an amazing little guy. We have since adopted an abandoned farm kitty from a family member and along with the basset we already had, it's quite a family! Thank you NHS for all you do!!
