Who rescued Who?

Pooka is my blessing in disguise

I had just graduated high school and was wasting time with my mom when we decided to stroll through and look at the dogs. I turned the corner, and there was a 15 pound black and white puppy just staring at me. I couldn't keep my eyes off of him, he was so cute and only wanted to play with me, even though other people were walking by and attempting to get his attention. I knew right then that this puppy was going home with me.

His tag said he was an Akita Mix, and 3 months old. I remember thinking he's good size for a 3 month old pup, little did I know that he would grow to be the biggest 140lb baby I had ever known! Like his small size, Junior didn't stick for long, and he was named Pooka. I left for college a few months after he was adopted, but whenever I came home he was so excited to see me. Eventually he moved with me, and he loved campus life. There were many ups and downs during those years, and Pooka was always by my side, even when a class project of raising infant squirrels kept he and I up late for midnight feedings.

Pooka is my blessing in disguise, he's been there for tears and laughter, and I don't know what I would have done if not for that fateful day of wandering through the Nebraska Humane Society.
