Mardi Gras  Mardi Gras We cannot imagine life without Mardi Gras On Fat Tuesday 2013, we went to the Nebraska Humane Society to look for a dog to adopt. We told the kids before we left the house that we were simply just looking. We had found a dog on the website that day that we were interested in but by the time we got there she was gone. We walked around the kennels and interacted with the dogs and a one named "Dakota" caught my eye. She immediately came up to me and licked my hand. She had great markings on her body and seemed very friendly. We picked her to interact with in a room. She was only 11 months old at the time so the staff was not sure about the kids and the dog. Immediately the dog was very friendly and playful. Approximately 5 minutes into the visit, she was laying on the floor and chewing on her toy. We interacted with her some more and decided that we would take her home. We did have some concerns because she was only 11 months old and we were about to be her fourth home! Since the day we have had her, we still cannot believe that someone would give up this little girl! We named her Mardi for Mardi Gras. She has been a blessing to our family! She has a ton of love to give and the kids absolutely love her. She wakes them up in the mornings by jumping on their beds and licking their faces. She runs approximately 6 to 9 miles per week with me. She loves sun-bathing in the backyard and chasing squirrels and rabbits. All the neighborhood kids love to play fetch with Mardi out front as well. I am so glad that we adopted from the Humane Society instead of a breeder. We cannot imagine life without Mardi. |
