I couldn't have asked for a better dog!

First a little back story: I had a 14-year-old Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Rachel who I had since I was 5, and I got her as a present for coming off of treatment for Leukemia. She passed away of old age on July 5th, 2014. I loved her very much and always will. I just needed another dog, because I have never lived without one before and needed a companion. Rachel was my best friend. She was there when no one else was. When she passed, my whole world fell apart. And I know Vespa will never replace her, that wasn't even my intention. So we went to the shelter.

I got Vespa in early August of 2014. She was the shy quiet one in a corner, but when I came up to the glass she came right up to me! I'm a 16-year-old girl. Any dog is adorable to me, but there was something about her eyes that made me have to have her. My mom was called over and she looked at her and said, "She is so homely! Are you sure?" Of course, I said yes and we signed up to meet her. My mom was very nervous about getting a dog her size and with how shy she was, but I was insistent and since she would be my dog, she let me have her. She was in kennel #2.

We get home and the first thing she does is go sniffing around and she was getting sick. We knew we had to give her some medications, but my mom got scared and told me "we aren't keeping a sick dog." To a point, I understood and reluctantly took her to the shelter to see what was going on, but thank god the lady there convinced my mother to keep her for a few more days, to let her nerves calm down. So we get back home and she was very shy. We gave her some space and let her get used to the new surroundings. By the end of the night she was a lot more open with us, but wouldn't stop following me around. (not a bad thing in my opinion).

After some time, she kept getting more and more open with us and now she is a crazy lovey pup who never leaves my side. She is the perfect companion and I am so happy my mother decided to let me keep her. She is the best thing that has ever happened to me and we couldn't be happier together. I bring her almost everywhere I go besides school!
I cannot thank the shelter enough for uniting me with my best friend. She is perfect and so smart! She now knows to fall over when I say bang! and can crawl, bow, shake, switch paws, sit pretty, sit, lay down, roll over, speak, and we start agility training in the spring!!! I couldn't have asked for a better dog!
