Gizmo has found his forever home

Thank you to the Humane Society for giving animals like Gizmo the second chance they desparately deserve

We first learned about Gizmo, a shy 11-year-old Lhaso Apso, from a local radio station. He was at the station and they were describing him. I remember thinking that he sounded like such a nice dog and hoping someone out there would adopt him soon. As days went by I could not get him out of my mind and checked the website to see if he was still there. It turned out he was still at NHS.

My husband and I visited him there in early May. When I first saw him in his kennel it brought me to tears. He was obviously well cared for, but depressed. He would relentlessly search every face that walked by his kennel looking for someone familiar. He would get very excited when any little girl would pass by only to drop his head in defeat when she wasn't "the one". People would pass by his kennel quickly after reading his information sheet.
In the meet and greet area he was somewhat disinterested in us and wanted only to watch every face that walked by the glass enclosed booth. Again, he was looking for his "people" and very interested in the children. After hearing that he had recently been through several adoption clinics, in an unsuccessful attempt to find a home, we decided to open our hearts and our home to him.

We have had him a month now. He was depressed when he first came home with us, but is adapting to his new family. He companionably follows his new mom all over the house. He is an exceptionally sweet soul who appreciates EVERY kindness we show to him. He loves his daily walks with his fur brothers and belly rubs. To anyone out there who has never considered adopting an older cat or an older dog please dont let fear prevent you from possibly have one the best pets EVER. Gizmo is a true joy and we are so blessed to have him in our family. Thank you to the Humane Society for giving animals like Gizmo the second chance they desparately deserve.
