Azalea has filled a void
Last year after a divorce, we needed to sell our home and move into a smaller one I could manage and afford. Our youngest daughter (15) had a difficult time adjusting to the change. Shortly after the move, she began asking for a kitten. Against my wishes, I decided to take her to the Nebraska Humane Society to take a look. We found an adorable 10-month-old kitten that was found several days earlier wondering in a field near Papillion. My daughter was instantly in love with her! Azalea (new name) has inadvertently filled a void for my daughter that neither of us had anticipated happening. She has been a wonderful addition to our family as well. I am very happy with our decision to adopt.

Ginger is a great addition to the family
Today marks the first week of our adoption of Ginger, a 6-month old Australian Shepherd/Border Collie Mix. She is the third dog we've adopted from the Nebraska Humane Society and we couldn't be more happy. She is a great addition to the family and will be a great playmate for Roque, our Shih Tzu mix. Thanks to everyone at the NHS for everything you do!!

Luna has brought so much joy in our lives
I have always grown up around dogs and knew that as soon as I was living on my own and able to afford it, I would want to own my own dog. When I got engaged to a wonderful man, I talked to him a lot about how I wanted a dog to be a part of our lives. He was skeptical at first (and also allergic!). His family had owned dogs before but they were always willful and destructive and he had never formed a bond with them. When we moved in together, I finally persuaded him to at least come to a local shelter and look at some dogs. At the shelter, we took out this sweet Pit Bull mix and I watched my fiance fall in love with the dog. We placed the dog on hold and then returned to our apartment complex to inform our landlord that we were planning to bring a pet into our home. Unfortunately, the minute the landlord heard that the dog was a Pit Bull, he rejected our request and said there was no way he would ever consider letting us have her in our place. Stunned and heartbroken, we felt defeated. My fiance especially was hurt, as he had never before had a bond with an animal like that in such a short amount of time.
Then, on Labor Day weekend, we went to Omaha to visit my parents and I once again asked my fiance if we could visit the local humane society. He was gun-shy after our first adoption had fallen through, but still I was able to persuade him to give it one more try. On the second visit to the shelter, we were in the visiting room playing with one dog when we happened to look over and saw this sweet black Lab mix in the room next door. Our volunteer told us that the family next door was trying to see if the dog would get along with their family dog before they decided whether or not to take her home. Fortunately for us, the two dogs did not get along and so we were able to take a look at her. From the moment Luna entered the play room, I could see that my fiance was hooked. She went to him immediately and was very affectionate and sweet. Her former family was forced to abandon her because they could no longer afford to keep her. We decided that day that we had to adopt her.
Although the first few months were a bit rough (Luna has a sensitive stomach and had to have a partial tail amputation due to happy tail syndrome), we have not looked back on our decision to adopt our dog. She has brought so much joy in our lives. She goes on regular walks and doesn't go anywhere without at least one ball in her mouth. She loves to lay on the couch next to us while we are working. I love her and my fiance jokingly laments that Luna and I have turned him into a dog lover, now and forever.
Thank you Nebraska Humane Society!

Many thanks to NHS
Our senior "special needs" dog has adapted well to her new home environment. It was because of the wonderful care she received by the staff and volunteers. Please let them know they did a great job with her. My cat accepted her right away! The records kept on file for her helped us and also our vet.

Iggy is the best cat. He is so loving and cuddly. He loves his new home and his new cat nip toys.
It's kinda a long story. I used to have a cat named Jack. Circumstances changed things, and he had to stay with my parents. My mom got attached, and wants to keep him. So every couple of weeks, my sister would email cats from the Nebraska Humane Society. I always took a look through the website, and thought "aaaww they're all cute, but now isn't such a good time." My boyfriend and I are in the middle of moving. We figured after after the move, we would seriously consider adopting a cat.
A couple of weeks ago, my sister emailed me a link to the cutest Siamese kitty. I actually thought about this cat for a couple of days. I went back to the website to see if he was still available. I didn't find him and thought, "Well, he was a really pretty cat, it figures he would've found a home right away."
My sister and I were texting Friday evening. She was saying that maybe she would get my boyfriend and I a cat for a house-warming present. I responded the cat she sent me a few days ago was perfect. She sent me another link to the same cat. I hadn't realized he had been moved to the PetSmart in Shadow Lake. I jumped in my car and drove across town. My sister had been in the same area and met up with me. We met the cat, and instantly had a good connection with him. I had to put him on hold. I went back the next morning, and the rest is history! I just couldn't help it! He is the sweetest and cutest kitty! He's feeling right at home.

He's such a good boy and a great addition to the family
It's now a week since we adopted our 10 month Boxer/Pit Bull mix Koba from the humane society, and even though he likes to chase the cat and has his puppy moments like getting hyper and nipping. He is an amazing, loving, smart and friendly dog who won't stay away from my side. He is such a huge cuddlebug and still thinks he is a lap dog. He is doing great and has made my depression subside. I'm more happy and energetic now and feel better cuddling to him and just laughing at his goofy behavior. He's such a good boy and a great addition to the family.

Vivian's Neverending Adventure
Life is great!
Life with my humans is great! They still need some training, but all in all they take great care of me. They treat me like the goddess I am! Thank you to the lady who helped me go home. I don't remember your name, but thank you anyway. And thank you to the wonderful people who kept me happy during my stay. I never thought a stray like me would be this loved. I'm having so much fun with my people. We go on many adventures together. They registered me as an Emotional Support Animal, so I get to go everywhere with my favorite worshippers. Loud noises still scare me, but I'm getting better at ignoring them. My favorite place in the car is on the dash, right in the center of action. Unless I'm sleepy. Then it's curled up in mommy's arms. I went to PetSmart and Petco with my family, and we saw many different creatures. I'm still not entirely sure what to think of the big slobbering fuzzball my people call a dog. But life is pretty great so far. I think I'll keep them.

Truly part of the family
Maggie (aka Dixie) has been the greatest addition to my life. I relocated back to Nebraska after a not so great job just not feeling like I was home. Once I moved back, I knew I was on the right track, but something was missing. And once I met Maggie, I knew exactly what was missing. We both snore, nap a lot, like to play, and enjoy our daily walks. She genuinely makes me laugh with her puppy spirit and I'm excited to see what adventures we can go on. She's truly part of the family.

Thank you for nursing her to health so that she could become the sidekick I have today!
It's been two years since we adopted Bonzai from NHS. The hair has grown back from her heartworm treatments. The rotted teeth are gone forever. The quiet dog that stared me down from across the playroom has transformed entirely. She does still stare me down ... but only when I'm sitting in her couch seat.
Bonzai was already approximately 7 years old and riddled with heartworms when she was picked up by NHS after an unknown amount of time on the street. Thank you for nursing her to health so that she could become the sidekick I have today!
