Sometimes Animal Control Officers save people’s lives too! ACO Kisha Witherspoon was called to a PetSmart on Friday to pick up a dog after the owner failed to pick it from a grooming appointment. They'd attempted to contact him but had no luck.
PetSmart said that the owner was a regular, and his dog was well cared for. They also noted that everything appeared normal when he had dropped the dog off. Concerned, Officer Witherspoon notified Investigator Misty Binau.
Officer Binau went to the owner’s home and was unable to get a response, so she notified Omaha Police. Dispatcher Julie Bieranowski also called the Omaha Fire Department for EMS services. The pet owner was found lying in distress in his apartment after suffering a medical episode.
We are proud of Officer Witherspoon for her intuition, and to Officer Binau and Dispatcher Bieranowski for their swift follow-up. Way to go the extra mile! Lola (freshly groomed) is now back with family members as her owner gets the medical attention he needed.
