Like many of you, we are devastated by the images and stories coming out of Texas showing the destruction caused by Hurricane Harvey. We know many people and their pets have been displace by the storm and are in need of help. We’ve received numerous phone calls and emails from people asking how, we, here at the Nebraska Humane Society, are helping. While our shelter staff awaits specific requests from those erecting pet disaster shelters, we’ve gathered information on how the general public can provide needed items. Below you’ll find information on donation drives and wish lists from animal shelters effected by the storm.
Emergency shelters housing evacuees want to keep pets with their people, but can only allow in pets who arrive in carriers or crates. Lots of pets are arriving cradled in their owner arms, so the shelters are requesting pet carriers, leashes and collars. To help make sure pets are not separated from their people, we are hosting a crate, collar and leash drive.
