The Nebraska Humane Society Education Department is pleased to announce a new day camp option called Baxter's Camp.

Youth (ages 6-13) with disabilities able to handle animal interactions and activities are invited to register.

Some of the challenges we are unable to accommodate without a trained support staff are included below. Please note that trained support staff must be over the age of 19 and be provided by the parent/guardian.

  • Behavioral disorders
  • Youth unable to use restroom without assistance
  • Severe seizure disorders
  • Visually impaired needing a guide
  • Hearing impaired needing an interpreter
  • Any youth with a service or emotional support animal needing to attend with them
  • Physically disabled needing total support

To register for Baxter's Camp, please email Summer Larkihn, Humane Education Coordinator, at slarkihn@nehumanesociety.org. Potential campers' parents/guardians will then be contacted to discuss registration further.

Baxter was a Pomeranian with a traumatic brain injury that came to NHS. He needed special care and extra love, but he didn't let his disability limit him. Our education department is honoring his memory with a youth camp.
