Humane Hands is for 13- to 16-year-olds who want to learn about different departments and topics within the Nebraska Humane Society. Participants will take part in a variety of activities and hands-on service projects at the shelter. 



  • Cost is $95 per participant (while COVID limits our capabilities)
  • Sessions will be from 10 a.m. - noon
  • Participants will be required to wear a mask at all times. Additionally, participants will be limited to 12 per session due to the current circumstances.
  • Handwashing and other safety protocols will be implemented through the duration of Humane Hands. 
  • Each attendee will receive a Humane Hands t-shirt.
  • All activities will be facilitated by a humane educator and animal program coordinator.
  • Attendees will have a chance to become a camp counselor for our summer camps.
  • Education Teachers (paid staff) are all CPR, AED, First Aid, and EpiPen trained for your child's safety.

Humane Hands Dates and Times

Humane Hands will meet the following dates from 10 a.m. - Noon. Both sessions will have the same curriculum. 

Session 1 will include the following dates:

  • Saturday, September 12, 2020
  • Saturday, October 10, 2020
  • Saturday, November 14, 2020
  • Saturday, December 12, 2020

Session 2 will include the following dates:

  • Saturday, January 9, 2021
  • Saturday, February 13, 2021
  • Saturday, March 13, 2021
  • Saturday, April 10, 2021


Please Note

Due to COVID-19, participants must remain in the Center for Humane Education building and will not be allowed into any other buildings on our campus. It is important that your child is able to fully participate in each activity. We will not have alternative activities planned for each session. Your child must be between the ages of 13-16 to participate. Once your child is registered there will be no refunds for cancellations.

All participants should wear closed-toe shoes, bring a water bottle and a sweatshirt or jacket as our facility is cool. Please drop off your child no earlier than 10 minutes prior to the start time of each session. For safety reasons, all participants must be picked up immediately after each session concludes. Late pick-ups will be charged a fee of $1.00 per minute after 5 minutes. Thank you for your cooperation.
