Humane Heroes

Humane Heroes is for 12 to 16-year-olds who want to learn about different departments and topics within the Nebraska Humane Society. Participants will take part in a variety of activities and hands-on service projects at the shelter. 

Details

  • Cost is $160 per participant
  • Sessions will be from 10 a.m. - noon
  • Sessions are limited to 12 participants. Handwashing and other safety protocols will be implemented through the duration of Humane Hands. 
  • Each attendee will receive a Humane Heroes t-shirt.
  • All activities will be facilitated by a Humane Educator.
  • Attendees will have a chance to become a camp counselor for our summer camps!
  • Humane Educators are all CPR, AED, First Aid, and EpiPen certified.

Humane Heroes Dates and Times

Registration is now open and applies to all sessions.

  • October 12th: Nebraska Humane Society Overview & Tour
  • November 9th: Dog Behavior and Safety
  • December 7th: Animal Control and Dispatch
  • January 11th: Cat Care, Behavior and Safety
  • February 8th: Animal Medical Department
  • March 8th: Critter Care, Behavior and Safety
  • April 12th: Grooming, Foster Care, and Maintenance Departments
  • May 10th: Celebration!

Please Note

It is important that your child is able to fully participate in each activity. We will not have alternative activities planned for each session. Your child must be between the ages of 12-16 to participate. Once your child is registered there will be no refunds for cancellations.

All participants should wear closed-toe shoes, bring a water bottle and a sweatshirt or jacket, as it can sometimes be chilly in the shelter. Please drop off your child no earlier than 10 minutes prior to the start time of each session. For safety reasons, all participants must be picked up immediately after each session concludes. Late pick-ups will be charged a fee of $1.00 per minute after 5 minutes. Thank you for your cooperation.
