Sarah
Sarah was adopted from NHS on Nov. 30, 1999. Now 10 years old and afflicted with arthritis, she has retired from a show career with several titles in obedience, rally, and agility. She still loves to travel and go camping and hiking, along with daily walks at home. She also goes to work with me five days a week, where she greets clients and their dogs. While she has not always been the easiest dog to handle, due to lack of socializing as a pup, she made great strides as shown by all her titles. My bank account would be better if I had not adopted her, however, my heart and my life would be emptier. She's now been with me for 9 years and will enjoy her senior years with me too.

Allie
Allie is our mini Australian Sheppard we adopted around November of 06. She is spoiled rotten. Our two girls love her so very much. She's always ready to play and is the BEST watch dog ever. She's very protective of her family. She has been taught to lie down and to roll over, so now whenever she wants your attention, she rolls over without being asked. She has a large fenced back yard to play in and has even gone camping with us. We have two squirrels in our back yard that Allie is determined to keep out. We couldn't imagine life without her.

Bandit |
 | |
We adopted Bandit in April of 2005. It was our first wedding anniversary and we had been looking for a dog to add to our family for months. There were so many cute dogs there that day. However, Bandit really stuck out from the rest. It turns out that Bandit was given up to the Nebraska Humane Society twice in his life. If it wasn't for Nebraska Humane Society taking him in both times he would have never had a chance to survive. When we first met Bandit we could tell he had a lot of puppy left in him. His energy and excitement to see us was a bit overwhelming at first. Despite this, he convinced us to take him home when he put his head on my husband's shoulder and gave us a "please love me” look.

Dakota |
 | |
We adopted Dakota in October 2006, just 2 days after our 15 year old Lhasa (Chelsea) died. This was the first time in many years that we adopted a grown (2 years old) large (60lbs) dog. I was actually waiting to see 2 smaller dogs, when one of the volunteers brought Dakota back from a walk. She came right over to my son, daughter-in-law and me. She proceeded to rest her head on my knee and nuzzled my hand, all the time her tail was wagging furiously! We took her home and she has been wonderful...we've taken her to beginners & advanced classes and also the Canine Good Citizen class. This past June (07) we decided she needed a playmate. After interviewing (and being interviewed) by two other dogs, Dakota, my husband and I were interviewed by Sid at the Papillion Petsmart. Dakota and Sid took an instant liking to each other and played tirelessly! So now we have 2 wonderful dogs. Our "furry kids" love to play in the backyard (and in the house) and enjoy daily walks (weather permitting.) They also get along well with our sons, their wives and all our grandkids. We love them both so much and can't imagine life without them. Thank you so much NHS, you not only have a great facility but you also have many wonderful classes to choose from!

| Diamond |

Just wanted to let you know how much we love Diamond, she is a perfect bunny. She comes in the house every afternoon as soon as Kate gets home and is also in all day on the weekends. She's very clean in the house! Kate just loves her and she makes her laugh all the time. Diamond (aka funny bunny) loves Kate as well, she follows her around the house and the lays down wherever Kate settles, it's very cute. She follows me too, but only when she thinks I'm going to give her a treat. She begs at he refrigerator for carrots. She and Kate are a perfect match.

Dorie |
 | |
I met Dorie at PetSmart near the end of October. I just had to hold her - once her cage was opened she jumped into my arms and began to purr. Needless to say, she came home with me! She is truly the most affectionate and intelligent cat I have ever met. She fit right into her new home and within days was waking us up by bringing her toys up onto the bed and prompting us to play with her! Thank you NHS.

Kitty Elizabeth
I just wanted to thank you all for helping me find the best cat possible for me! I adopted in July and have had nothing but wonderful experiences since. Elizabeth has been a wonderful companion and seems to be just as happy as me with her in my home. Thank you so very much for such a wonderful match!

Emmy

We adopted Emmy last June and she is doing great. She used to be called Indi but we renamed her. We decided to adopt an older kitty as the kittens always seem to go first. Her being almost three fit the bill. Our last NE Humane Soc. kitty lived to be 17 yrs and he died 4 months before we got Emmy. The house was too quiet; not anymore!! She is the most loving cat, "talks" a lot, and we spoil her in return.

| George and Louie |
My husband and I adopted George (a black and white 18 month old cat) from the adoption site at Petsmart in Papillion last October. We were actually there to get dog food—but got sidetracked with George’s antics. We brought him home and after a week or so of running away and hiding from our 2 dogs, they were real good friends. (George learned the warm dryer is an excellent hiding spot!) This August, while in Petsmart again, my husband and I saw the most adorable ball of orange fluff in the adoption window. We went into meet the cat (Theo) and ended up coming home with a brother for George. We re-named him Louie. It took the cats longer to get used to each other than the dogs! But they are now one big happy family.

| Kallie and Charlie |
 | |
Due to a change in my life, I found myself living alone with all family 1200 miles away. My little dog went to live with his daddy who was retired. I thought it would be better for him since I work full time and he was alone much of the time. To say the least, it was pretty lonely and depressing at my house. One day I got a wild idea and thought a cat might be an answer as they are more independent. I went to the animal shelter and found "Charlie" who was two years old. He went home with me and it was a great fit and we love each other dearly. In September 2007 I went back to NHS - actually I was thinking of volunteering to help out on one of my days off. I fell in love with a little black and white schnauzer mix. Her name was Kallie and she was 14 months old. I adopted her - but was a little concerned about how she and Charlie would feel about each other. I have to tell you that the day I adopted her I had the top down on my little red VW bug - she sat on the passenger seat, head up, and rode all the way home that way to Council Bluffs. I think we were meant to be. Kallie and Charlie were best buddies within two days. I have never laughed as much as I have at those two. They have brought a joy into my life that was sorely needed. I think living with me has made them happy too.

Gus the boxer
After looking and waiting for the perfect dog we adopted Gus from your shelter not long ago. When we first got Gus he was a little skinny and very needy. In the first short few weeks we had him he became the part of our family we were missing. He has put on weight and adapted to his new home very well. Gus loves to play with his new best friend (our 4 year old Levi), his toys and his "parents". I just wanted to send you a quick thank you for all of your help in our search.
